Privacy at Umengle

What gets collected, why, who else sees it, how long it stays, and what you can ask us to do with it. No account is needed to use the site — but the platform does have accounts and paid features, and this covers those too.

Effective

What this covers

This policy describes how Umengle handles personal information across the website and any related services. It applies whether you use the site anonymously or create an account.

Two things are worth separating up front, because they get confused constantly. Starting a random video chat does not require an account — no email, no phone number, no password. But the platform does have accounts, a wallet and paid features, and if you use any of those, information is collected that a purely anonymous visit would not produce. This policy covers both cases.

If you do not agree with what is described here, stop using the service. There is no account to close if you never made one.

What we collect

Information you give us directly:

  • Account details, if you create an account — email address, username, display name, password, and optional profile fields such as an avatar, a short bio, date of birth and gender.
  • Content you publish — anything you post, upload or share on the platform.
  • Communications — messages to other users, support requests, and feedback you send us.
  • Payment details, if you buy something — billing and transaction information. Card processing is handled by third-party payment providers; we do not store full card numbers.

Information collected automatically while you use the service:

  • Device information — device type, operating system, browser, unique device identifiers and mobile network information.
  • Usage data — pages viewed, features used, time spent, and the page that referred you.
  • Approximate location, derived from your IP address. More precise location is collected only if you grant your device permission for it.
  • Server logs — IP address, access times and system activity.

Information from third parties: if you sign in with a service such as Google or Apple, we receive the name, email address and profile picture that service passes to us. Analytics providers give us aggregated or anonymised usage data.

What we use it for

  • Running the service — matching you with someone, carrying the call, and keeping your session working.
  • Safety and moderation — reviewing reports, acting on abuse, and detecting fraud and automated accounts.
  • Payments — processing purchases and handling disputes and chargebacks.
  • Improvement — understanding which parts of the product get used and which do not.
  • Communication — replying to support requests and sending service messages you need to receive.
  • Legal obligations — meeting requirements that apply to us, and responding to lawful requests.

We do not sell personal information.

Conversations, and what is not kept

A random video chat ends when either side leaves. The conversation itself is not retained afterwards, and there is no history page to scroll back through, because there is no history to show you.

What the service cannot control is the other person. Nothing stops someone recording their own screen using tools that have nothing to do with this site, and no policy can undo something you chose to put on camera. Treat anything visible or audible during a call as potentially public: keep your full name, address, workplace, financial details and account credentials out of frame and out of the conversation.

Content you publish is public

Anything you post publicly — a profile, uploaded media, or other published content — can be seen by anyone and may be indexed by search engines. Deleting or editing it removes it from the platform, but search engines refresh their own copies on their own schedule, so there can be a delay before the change is reflected in search results. That delay is outside our control.

Cookies and similar technologies

The site uses cookies and similar storage to keep you signed in, remember preferences, keep the service secure, and measure how the product is used. What each category does, and how to switch the non-essential ones off, is set out on the cookie policy page.

Who else sees it

We share personal information only in these situations:

Service providers
Companies that run parts of the service for us — hosting, content delivery, payment processing, analytics and communications. They may only use the data to perform that work for us.
Other users
Whatever you publish publicly, and whatever you say or show during a conversation. This is the largest category by far, and it is entirely under your control.
Legal and safety
Where we are required to comply with applicable law or a lawful request, or where disclosure is necessary to investigate abuse, fraud, or a threat to someone's safety.
Business transfers
If the service is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, information may transfer as part of that transaction.

How long it is kept

We keep personal information for as long as it is needed for the purpose it was collected for, and after that for as long as we are required to keep it — for example to meet legal, tax or accounting obligations, or to resolve a dispute that is still open.

Account information is deleted or anonymised after an account is closed, subject to those obligations. As set out above, the content of a random video chat is not kept once the conversation ends.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Ask what personal information we hold about you, and get a copy of it.
  • Have inaccurate information corrected.
  • Have your information deleted.
  • Object to, or ask us to restrict, certain kinds of processing.
  • Withdraw a consent you previously gave — this does not undo processing that already happened.
  • Ask for your information in a portable, machine-readable form.

To exercise any of these, write to [email protected]. We may need to verify that the request is really coming from you before we act on it — that verification protects you, not us. If you never created an account, there may be no record tied to you to find.

Adults only

This service is for adults. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age required to use it where they live. If we learn that we have, the account is removed and the information is deleted.

If you believe a minor is using the service, report it — during a call the report control is on screen, and outside a call the contact page reaches us.

Security

We use technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access, including encryption in transit and access controls on internal systems.

No service can promise perfect security, and any company that does is telling you something about itself. What we can say is that the amount of data we hold about an anonymous visitor is very small, because most of it was never collected.

Third-party services

Some parts of the experience rely on third parties — payment processing, analytics, and sign-in providers if you use social login. Their handling of your information is governed by their own privacy policies, not this one. Links to external sites are the same: once you leave, this policy stops applying.

Changes to this policy

We update this policy when the service changes or when the law requires it. The effective date at the top always reflects the current version. Where a change is significant, we will make it visible rather than relying on you to re-read the page.

Contact

Questions about this policy, or about what we hold on you, go to [email protected]. That address reaches a monitored inbox, not a form that goes nowhere.

This page describes what actually happens rather than the widest set of rights a lawyer could reserve. If something here does not match what you observe on the site, that is a bug worth telling us about.
